i would say a fine clay would be best
maybe a paint cleaner after that if you want to get the best result (megs paint cleaner/ car lack 68/ victoria wax clense range)
you may want to add a sealer before you wax, i use jetseal 109 and you really can tell the difference (but it's pricey).
Then on with the wax, i would use a small foam or microfibre applicator. Just make sure you leave 20mins curing time before you wipe off. Also i would make sure you put a minimum of two coats of wax to get proper coverage. (i did this with the sealer too.)

That's at least a days work lol, but enjoy Cool

the glaze is a fine polish and does add to the shine so yes i would, you could always skip the paint cleaner if you are happy with the result after clay bar. It really depends how much tar there is and the general condition of the paint.

sorry it is probably worth mentioning that doing all these stages is something i would only do once every 6 months (others may do it more frequently).
After that i just wash and keep the wax topped up (as long as you always keep a good coat on no more crap should adhere to the paint)

Using a sealent and wax combo should create a very resilient barrier.

I have used these methods with a friend of mine and we seem to stick to it as a rule, cleanyourcar forums will be there abouts the same. Other may have different opinions.

this is the claybar i use https://www.bilthamber.com/

Works brilliantly with either dodo born slippy or a bucket of fresh water with some megs gold class added. It really is shocking what turns up on it. about every 6months it gets the full works.

Wax about once a month then dodo juice tropical detailer to keep it topped up, but i do need to buy some sealant at some point.

Before shows it normally gets a bit of extra wax and coated with detailer just before the show.

just one little point, make sure you use a good quality clay lube aswell, otherwise you will damage the paints finish as clay bar can be quite aggresive if not used correctly.
