| Those are just standard car bulbs with some blue glass and are Illegal for road use due to the colour.
Every standard bulb is a Halogen, calling them Xenon's is actually mis-selling and wrongly described, proper Xenon's are entirely different.
Proper Xenon or HID kits cost between £40 & £120 (depending on bulb type and fiment) and consist of Arc bulb, ballast and if using H4 Bi-Xenon's a controller unit.
if its HID's you want the go to www.hids4u.co.uk/
But just to warn you that supposedly from December 2011 it will be illegal to sell, fit or use HID's on cars that did not leave the factory with them fitted as standard

| Nice one on the info! Yeah i know about the rumours on hid kits so its only these lights that i can upgrade my lights and get the blue tint style left then? I want clearer brighter lights compared to the shitty yellow standard bulb light. Found a set of bulbs on ebay with the seller stating that they are road legal as they are 55w, and have blue tint in the light, with clear light on the road (6500k)? This still basically lies??!! | |

| Its up to the MOT tester/copper. This year the tester picked up my lights (despite being 4300k briliant white) as the had a blue tint to them. He was ok with them until a VOSA car pulled up outside waiting to see the outcome of the test. You should be able to use the Phillips Xtremes bulbs. Or try and get a set of 3000k style standard bulbs, they give of a very yellow light (perfecty legal and euro look) and visability is a 100% better due to the tint of light. I ran them on the polo when I lived in Pwllheli and 4 years on that same set are now fitted to the saxo. and they are brilliant for bombing down the back lanes. Before the new laws come in ill be sourcing some 3000k HID's as there is no blue tint so chances are the cops wont bat an eyelid. | |

| Awesome! Think im going to try the cheap 6500k ones off ebay for now, i love the blue tint look on headlights, and tbh hid kits are damn expensive, especially when theyre supposedly illegal next year. Where did you live in Pwllheli? The cops around my way dont seem to be bothered in pulling cars over. Only car i know of that has been pulled over is a mk2 which had limo tints on windscreen Ill give the lights a go and ill post the results, so everybody else can probably avoid them ha | |

| I found that the halfords super brilliance 50% xenon bulbs work well
They have a clearer style to them and are seriously bright!! sometimes get cars flashing (think the high beam is on)
Mightbe £15 a bulb but well worth it imo

Mightbe £15 a bulb but well worth it imo Yeah put them on the My missus Beamer and she says nearly every car flashes because they think she's on high beam. Really good headlight though.

| i was told that they are illegal in non projector lense headlamps, as normal lamps like the mk3 polo use the reflective backing to aim the light beam so if the bulb is a different shape (cheap hids are normally taller bulbs) then because the point of origin has changed the light reflection is to shit causing people to be dazzled, whereas a projector headlamp (audi a4 newish shape) uses the actual lense to aim the beam so regardless the shape of bulb behind the light will reflect in the same line therefore not dazzling people and legal?? :S maybe iv been told a load of horse-y poop but made sense to me?? | |

You are correct. Also for the new standards, if you're wanting HIDS you are also required to have headlight washers also in order to not disrupt the beam.

| Legality is questionable but your only really going to get done for them if your dazzling the shit out of everything.
Mk3 polos on HID's have perfect beam pattern and its identical to the halogen bulb which is what your looking for.
You should also have self-leveling light (a feature which is useless in this country as its too slow to react and causes more dazzle than fixed ones), the washer system is do to with the fact that projectors wont work with dirty lenses and the beam is so focused it becomes dim very quickly.

| well ive changed my mind on the blue tint bulbs, going to get bright white bulbs (phillips) as you can get 100% brighter clearer beam and theyre road legal aswell. been told led sidelight bulbs from here are good: ultraleds.co.uk led sidelight bulbs will be much brighter and look better than the yellow ones on a mk4 golf. anyway thanks all for your top advice | |
