| Hi, all what would be the best engine swap for my 1.3 cl mk1 1982.
i.e straight in swap, am looking for some better MPG as the car will be used as a daily.
i was thinking mk2 td, if so what year mk2 and is it a straight swap.
or a polo 1.3 and 5 speed box, is this also a straight swap...
any info on straight swap engines and boxs would be ideal. cheers | |

| any small block 1.0-1.3 polo engine will fit. best off getting a low milage polo for cheap and switching everything over.
diesel will need more new parts.

| I did near enough this conversion...
If your going for a 5speed then a mount will need to be made of half of the polo gearbox on and then golf engine one...
Basically grind in half and weld
Wiring wise its pretty simple... don't need half of it, but depends if you got a ecu... you'll need a ignition amplifier though...
And also the throttle setup will need to be changed as the mk1 pedal is old style the pedal from where that engine came from will need to be sourced and the arm where the throttle cable clips onto shortened 20mm, and fitted with that throttle cable... failing that a custom throttle cable (when i looked into these they were £150+)
The diesels will need a new fuel tank and lines alot more work With the injection, Youll need a new fuel tank with the fuel pump attached ie Mk3 polo GT engine...
Dont know if that makes sense....

ive even seen a polo g40, but as you where saying 1.0-1.3 so the g40 might not be a option... cheers - Luke_MK1 wrote:

| Your choice are for tunability purposes any of the 13/1.4/1.6 engines from the mk2f & 6n models. As for ease of conversion then bike carbs are the easiest option as it would save the need to fit a whole injection/ECU loom, all you would need is the ignition setup from a 1.3 mk2 as it has its own stand alone loom. As for custom throttle cables, you just need some solderless nipples and throttle cable from a rally supplies. | |
