Mk2 golf wet floor?

hi guys, my mk2 golf has got a wet rear and front passenger footwell?

don't seem to be any holes in the floorpan, but my mate had the same problem in his 5dr mk2?

he never solved it tho?

was wondering if any off you have come across the problem before? and how u rectified it?

is it a seal? common fault? blocked sunroof drain holes? summat silly like that

thoughts appreciated

could it be the door membrane?

the plastic sheeting behind the door panel?

how would that keep water out? surely it would be the window seal?

not really, water will always get past the window seal. the membrane is there for a reason, it should be sealed properly to the door to prevent water coming through. Done loads of water leaks on cars that turn out to be the membrane. reckon its worth a go. if you take your interior door pad off and get someone to spray some water on the outside of the door with the door shut, you'll see if its coming in or not.

ure door cud be slightly out of allingment meaning tht the seal wont wrk properly, letting water in when hitting puddles


or the door shheting membrane letting condensation develope and it will collect and run down the door onto carpets

but ure best bet is door seals m8, make sure their not badly warn and that their properly attached to the door

im with phil, you would never think it could be the membrane, but if not fitted properly they let in water.

My membranes knackered, when I slam the driver door water pours in through the mirror adjuster bit I'm just waiting for an oportunity to get tthe door card off and re-seal it - I don't have a garage

my mk1`s always full of water (front rear + both sides ) but its cumin in throug the boot seal or thhe rear light seals - i beentold the rear light`s quite common on mk1`s. the other thing is check under the bonnet in the cannal where the heater is there should be drainage holes (bout 25mm) on eather side chech there not blocked or water will come in through the heater when i first got mine i washed it straight away when i got home withought checking them....it was messy

Yeah.. my MK1 got soaked in the footwells... ended up being the leaves under the hood blocking the drainage pipes in the gutter along the bottom of the window...

Water has found its way in everywhere... tss

i think i found the problem today lol, ripped the doorcard off,

there was a black bin bag that had been brown taped to the door lol!

the window seal is fubared, so i need the black outer strip from a 2 door mk2 golf

im gna have a go at sealing the door up with silver gaffa tape and some red carpet protector that we use in work, that way, f**k all will be coming in,

i still need the black seal that runs across the outside of the door of anybodys got one?

you want the outer seal for a mk2 window, a 3dr one?

i can get you the front ones for left or right if needed? but the back one would be a bastard to get

im from blaenau ffestiniog, but i go llandudno way alot cuz im in collage in llandrillo, but i can get the part by monaday for ya if thts nt a stretch, unlessure going to the meeting on sunday

umm probbably arround 5 quid, cus ill just go get one from my m8, hes gt a few me thinks m8

yeh that should be ok mate, i might see if i can pop to this meet, meet some new faces, will have to come in the work van though!

if not then ill jus get it off u on monday init, monday would be fine anyways,

btw, ill need the black rubber bit, and the metal it goes into that clips across the bottom of the door


dont spose he's got a pair of front springs either has he?

its jus a boggo 1.3 ryderrrr on a j reg, if so, ill collect it on sunday, anyway u can find out today??

right hmmm :s springs i can try to get but i aint gt the clamps to get the springs off but id probably just get the front coilovers for ya, but not sure on the condition, but they looked all right like :S

so ill check them tommorow after coleg for you m8

yeh, ill pm u my number now mate,
if they are on coilovers then u shudnt need clamps like, but see how much he wants for the springs, and then for the front shocks aswell,

bearing in mind i can get a pair of fronts for 26quid from the motor factor like.

deffo want the window seal tho
has he got the front seats aswell?

umm, i can get u a set of gti front seats, but they might need a good clean up, ll go check tomoroew, and ill take some pictures, and ill pm them to you, so u can have a look your self m8, so its no worries bud

the seats might be damp but if they ait gt no rips or tears then ure laughin

yeh, they can dry out!! dont rele wanna be spendin to much on the car like, its project budget haha!
