| Hey guys, I want to do all the work on the mk1 myself keeping with the built not bought theme.... I've been researching vehicle paintwork for quite a while now as it's always something I've been interested in but before I go on to have a go on the mk1 I just want a bit of inside info if there are any experts around... The paint is most likely to be a 3 part candy colour (metallic silver basecoat, candy second coat and then clear) is there any specific method other than the obvious? I've been looking into buying a HVLP gun - haven't got a booth so will most likely be a home made one! Any comments welcome.. unless they're stupid ones from 20vt.. A bit less flake than the pic though lol, don't want it looking like a fairground ride | |

| I know its more of a job than just white or something, but it's not impossible, I've seen a few people do it DIY using materials that I have available. Silver metallic basecoat is optional, might just do solid black undercoat then that will make the top coat easier to keep even. Will be a learning experience either way | |

| I'm keeping the car white, I trial fitted the schmidts on and it will look very clean with a metallic/candy white... should be a good one | |

| proper booth big compresser with a pressure regulator and water trap! take your time making sure you get even coverage, when i spray a few light dustings is better than one or two thick coats! then use proper laquer to match your paint, again, light dustings! if its orange peely after the laquer, let the paint harden and then flat back with 2000/2500 grit (Y) i fucked up the laquer because it was sunday i i could only get rattle cans, but will be flatting back and relaquering it! just practice pal! practice practice practice | |

| Tbh I'm pretty confident cause I won't have to match it to anything seeing as ill be spraying whole car inside and out, going with a pretty standard brilliant gloss white just to keep it looking pretty original and make it easier for myself... If anyone has a driver door and bonnet to sell (as long as no rust) then PM me, only bits I desperately need! Cheers for the comments, especially you Crease! Looks good | |
