| from what ive been reading
there are the following 2l 16v engines
2.0 litre (9A engine code from Corrado 2.0 16V, Passat GT 2.0 16V) 6A from Audi 2.0 16V; others) 2.0 litre tall block (ABF engine code from Mk3 Golf 16V, others)
so the abf is the one to have im gueesing lol

| All the same, I think some people have clearance problems with the ABF (hence the name tall block). It'll fit...just... | |

| ABFs tend to attract "scene tax" is the only problem, best bet is too get a rough Mk2 Ibiza with the same engine from ebay or something similar. Alot of people into VWs know ABFs are worth a bit. | |

| Think an ABF sits higher and lower. If your going for Bike carbs then Bonnet clearance wont be an issue as the inlet sits ontop of the std engine and you'd be getting rid of it. The engine in that picture could be a KR = 1.8 16v from a Mk2 or a few other options with the KR head ? This is by far the cheapest route for decent power with the big block cars - Can pick up KR's for under a ton without the injection gubbins. Allow a little extra for a rebuild etc. Reliable 150bhp with the bike carbs n decent exhaust and happy to rev ! Theres also the Audi 9A or VW 6A route - 2.0 16v Again a lot cheaper than ABF but you need to stick the KR cams in for a nice 150bhp Another option for you so that you dont have to mess around with new steering racks, gear linkages and moving engine mounts (And the one I'm taking) is one of the higher power small block engines ? 1.6 Polo/Lupo Gti engines or 1.4 16v engines. Smaller lighter cheap and a lot easier to fit in the small block golfs. Can look nice and tidy with bike carbs as the exhaust if at the front and messy carbs at the back towards the bulkhead. Looking at about 120bhp from my 1.4 when done and a redline of 8500 revs - wont be far behind the 1.8 16v with the extra revs and lighter weight | |

| I had thought about a small block engine but decided against it
Would a 1.8 engine be a better, easier to source option?
Bearing in mind I want to lower the car too
Or maybe go for the corrado engine? If it's the same as the abf but shorter

| dont forget about the differences in engine management, the kr only has an ecu to control idle the rest is mechanical, whereas the 9a and abf use a digital management | |
