| Hey guys, just wondering if any of you know what the deal with the driveshafts would be on an AGU conversion, and other than modifying the mounts are there any major pitfalls? Cheers in advance, a donor car would be used so clocks and ecu etc would be recycled so no need for a qpeng loom etc should be required
The mk1 speedo is a mechanical drive aswell isn't it?

| hiya mate, well you could use the original mk1 gearbox and drive shafts although not sure how long it would last with all that torque, or I think you can use the 100mm drive shafts from the later cabrio, then use any box you want, correct me if im wrong though! using the mk1 box is easiest but maybe not the best!
And you could just use the mk4 ECU and loom and get the Immobiliser defeated, maybe a bit cheaper and easier? Think only the drivers side mount needs modifying.

| oh and yes the mk1 speedo is a mechanical drive from the gearbox, cable runs from the rear of the box and straight into the clocks | |

| cheers mate, I looked into it further and I've found that cabrio 100mm driveshafts will fit and so will pre '89 rocco ones... so will just use them on the 02a 'box.. as far as immobiliser/ecu issues go, I'm hoping to use the whole setup on the mk1, keys clocks and all... might have to mate the mk1 clocks with the audi ones... I've also seen 02j boxes (which is just a later version of the 03a from what I've gathered) which apparently smoother and only need the one engine mount replacing (drivers side)
Given the resources at work I'll probably stick to the 02a and just manufacture the 3 mounts necessary (driver side, under the batt. cover and the rear) I've sourced the donor car (haven't I mr.20VT aka rhys!) now just need the boner car! (hope to have it within the next couple of weeks!)

| no im looking at an AGU on ebay at the moment, hopefully pick it tomorrow. yeah think the loom just plugs into the later fuse box, but I also have a 2004 seat leon cupra with the AUQ 180 engine, was thinking of breaking it but my mate says I'm stupid for doing it, but its only done 65k, FSSH! you should get the engine in your mk1 pretty easy, its all the little things like intercooler and piping that I'm not looking forward too | |
