| Hi Guys,
Just put a KR 16V into my MK1 and it feels underpowered. Any ideas what the problem can be??? No missfires and engine runs fine? Confused?
Thanks

| Hi m8 what do you mean by underpowered as my mk1 gti has blitzed every 16v it's come up against. The 16v is pretty poor in my opinion as u got to keep it at high revs to Get the most out of the engine, I originally thought about doing this conversion until I drove a few 16v's and decided against it as i thought it was just not as crisp as my 8v, people say it's more reliable and got better tuning outputs but in my opinion it's better to just mod the 8v | |

| Disagree sorry, most valvers if running corectly should push out 150bhp even though vw qouted 139bhp for the golf and 136 for the corrado most push out 150 on the rollers and should make the mk1 absolutely fly and is always been classed as a good conversion in the light MK1, Best way is to get it rolling roaded at stealth and get the wur mod done check fuel pump pressure and check plugs and ignition timing might just be a running issue! You do have to rev the valver hard to make it work as it was originaly built as a race engine | |

| My comment is not intended to offend any 16v owners in anyway it is just an opinion of what I think. Personally I love the 8v in a mk1 | |

| 8vs are gd low end, the 16v will be a kik in the teeth at high revs though, if it feels underpowerd then it cd be the kjet system playinng up nd need a gd clean? or try plugs and leads fr strnger spark?
but if u want the kr to feel like a gti ull need a 2litre bottom end on it in order to get some torq
if u feel its too underpoerd then rollers and see wats happend to the hold horses

| I'm going by my 8v with head skimmed to max, power roar pipe k&n full stainless etc and ive only driven standard 16v's so if I drove a 16 with the same work it would be a different cup of tea all together lol | |

Stealth racing are really good at the wur mod and are probably the best with the valver as theres not many about that tune these engines now with them being old! You can do it yourself but need a fuel pressure guage and it really needs rolling roaded to get the best from the mod, If you do some searching on the clubGti forum there is a thread on how to somewhere, Basicaly you drill a small hole in the brass plate on the wur and adjust the screw with an allen key to up the fueling
